Kampong Phluk Floating Village
About
Kampong Phluk is a cluster of three villages on the southeastern edge of Tonle Sap Lake, roughly 16 kilometers from Siem Reap, and one of the most visually spectacular floating village destinations in Cambodia. Unlike fully floating villages, Kampong Phluk is built on towering stilts up to eight meters high that keep the houses above water during the annual flood season, creating the dramatic sight of homes seemingly balanced atop tall wooden poles reflected in the calm lake surface. The surrounding flooded forest of submerged trees is a unique and eerie landscape best explored by small rowboat. The community of around 3,000 residents makes a living primarily from fishing, and visitors can observe traditional fish-trap weaving and fish paste production alongside the stilted school, pagoda, and market.
