Teuk Chhou Rapids
About
Teuk Chhou Rapids is a popular natural recreation area on the Kampot River, located about 8 kilometers north of Kampot town where the river narrows and rushes over a rocky bed before widening again into calm flat water downstream. The area has been a beloved local picnic destination for decades, and on weekends Cambodian families arrive in large numbers to swim in the current, relax on the rocks, hire inner tubes for floating, and share food in the riverside pavilions and hammock shelters that line the banks. The rapids are at their most exhilarating during the rainy season when the river runs full and fast. Surrounding forest provides shade, and the sound of rushing water creates an atmosphere very different from the nearby town and coast.
