Chambok Ecotourism Site
About
Chambok Ecotourism Site is a community-managed nature destination in the Cardamom Mountain foothills of Koh Kong province, established in 2002 as one of Cambodia's first and most successful community-based ecotourism initiatives. The site is centered on a forested area protecting wildlife corridors used by elephants, sun bears, gibbons, and hornbills, managed collectively by local villagers who receive direct income from tourism in exchange for their role as forest guardians. Activities include guided jungle walks to a two-tiered waterfall deep in the forest, oxcart rides through farmland, cultural demonstrations of traditional crafts, and visits to a small wildlife education center. Overnight stays in simple community guesthouses allow visitors to experience the forest at dawn, when bird activity is exceptional and wildlife sightings around the waterfall pool are most likely.
