Angkor National Museum
About
The Angkor National Museum is a world-class museum located on Charles de Gaulle Avenue in Siem Reap, opened in 2007 and dedicated to the history, culture, and artistic achievements of the Khmer Empire. Its eight air-conditioned galleries present over a thousand artifacts spanning the full span of Angkorian civilization, with particular emphasis on the Angkor Wat period of the 11th and 12th centuries. The centerpiece is the Gallery of 1,000 Buddhas, a vast circular room displaying an extraordinary assembly of Buddha images in stone, bronze, and wood from different eras. State-of-the-art audiovisual presentations, interactive displays, and multimedia storytelling make the collection highly accessible for visitors new to Khmer history. The museum provides essential context for understanding the temples of the Angkor Archaeological Park before or after visiting them.
