Royal Palace Phnom Penh
About
The Royal Palace of Phnom Penh is the official residence of the King of Cambodia and one of the most magnificent examples of Khmer classical architecture in the country. Construction of the current complex began in 1866 under King Norodom on a site chosen for its auspicious position near the Tonle Sap and Mekong rivers. The grounds encompass several ceremonial buildings, throne halls, and royal pavilions set amid manicured gardens and open courtyards. The Throne Hall, with its towering spire rising 59 meters, is used for coronations and state ceremonies. Visitors can explore parts of the palace open to the public, including the Silver Pagoda compound, pagodas, and collections of royal regalia on display in the gallery buildings.
