Koh Rong Samloem
About
Koh Rong Samloem is the smaller, quieter sibling of Koh Rong, separated by a narrow channel and offering a more tranquil island escape in the Gulf of Thailand. The island is best known for Saracen Bay on its eastern shore, a perfectly curved lagoon with calm, shallow water ideal for swimming and snorkeling, fringed by bungalows and small beach bars. The western side faces the open sea and has wilder, emptier beaches. Bioluminescent plankton are frequently visible in the sheltered bay on dark nights. The island has limited road infrastructure, restricting motorized vehicles and preserving its peaceful character. Diverse marine life around the surrounding reefs makes it a favorite spot for snorkeling and diving excursions.
