Bokor Hill Station
About
Bokor Hill Station is a hauntingly atmospheric collection of abandoned French colonial buildings perched at over 1,000 meters on the Bokor plateau in Kampot province. Built between 1921 and 1925 as an exclusive mountain retreat for French colonists escaping the lowland heat, the station included a grand hotel, casino, post office, church, and residential villas. It was abandoned twice, first during the First Indochina War and again during the Khmer Rouge period, leaving the buildings to be slowly consumed by jungle and mist. The derelict Bokor Palace Hotel, with its crumbling ballrooms and sea-view terraces, is the most iconic structure and a popular subject for photographers. The eerie fog that regularly blankets the plateau adds to the site's ghostly character.
