Silver Pagoda
About
The Silver Pagoda, formally known as Wat Preah Keo Morokat or Temple of the Emerald Buddha, is the most sacred Buddhist temple within the Royal Palace compound in Phnom Penh. Its popular name comes from its extraordinary floor, composed of over 5,000 silver tiles weighing approximately 90 kilograms in total. The temple houses a priceless collection of national treasures, including a 17th-century Emerald Buddha made from baccarat crystal, and a 90-kilogram solid gold Buddha studded with 2,086 diamonds. The surrounding gallery walls are covered with a 642-meter panoramic mural illustrating scenes from the Khmer version of the Ramayana. The pagoda remains an active place of worship and a powerful symbol of Cambodian culture and royal heritage.
