Battambang Provincial Museum
About
Battambang Provincial Museum is one of the oldest regional museums in Cambodia, housed in a French colonial building dating from 1968 near the city center. Its compact galleries display a carefully curated collection of Angkor-era stone sculptures, bronze figurines, ceramics, and Buddhist art recovered from temples and archaeological sites throughout Battambang province. Highlights include several finely carved 10th- to 12th-century sandstone lintels and pediments originally from local Khmer temple complexes, as well as pre-Angkorian Funan and Chenla period artifacts rarely seen in other museums. Ethnographic exhibits on the upper floor document traditional crafts, musical instruments, and daily life objects from the region. The museum provides excellent historical context before or after exploring the area's Angkor-era temples.
