Chong Kneas Floating Village

Chong Kneas is the most accessible floating village on Tonle Sap Lake, located just 11 kilometers south of Siem Reap at the point where the Siem Reap River meets the lake. As the departure point for Tonle Sap boat services to Phnom Penh and Battambang, the village sees the highest volume of visitors among the lake's communities, and a small floating market, school, crocodile farm, and restaurants cater to tourists arriving by the busload. The village is home to a large population of Vietnamese boat-dwelling families who have lived on the lake for decades. Despite its commercial character, a boat ride out past the main cluster reveals genuinely vast lake scenery, flooded forest edges, and the spectacle of an entire community conducted entirely on water.
